You get steeds by...
a) Leveling up a Divinira to level 2 (which will take about a month).
b) Waiting for MintMan to release a monster that already functions as a steed by level 1.
You get land by...
a) Conquering it from another person.
(side note: DO NOT attack KeroKato, Foshi, MadGoblin, lymfada, LieutenantEagle, Kupoling_Katana. You'll regret it.)
b) Waiting for MintMan to release another continent.
Anything else...
a) If you know you're not gonna win the battle, retreat. Less monsters will die that way.
b) Remember that list of people NOT to attack.
c) Read the forums. You'll learn a lot.
And be sure to not make another generic topic like this. But to be sure...

No, you can do about everything in the game except:
1) Move monsters to lands that they cannot normally travel to (which is true for most players most of the time)
2) Sit around and admire your collection of terrains (you can still attack new lands as any player has the right to; it makes no sense to start the game with terrains as the map would need to increase in size every time somebody signed up)
3) Not attack Kupoling Katana (he was just trying to save his own skin! Attack KK the Second!)

Yeah, I'm saving my own skin! What should I say?
FREE LAND!!! COME AND GET IT!!! FIRST COME, FIRST CONQUER! I SUCK AT THIS GAME, AND IF YOU ACT NOW, YOU GAN GET MY LAND IN FIVE DAYS OR IT'S EVEN MORE FREE!!!
Yep. Anyway, you might want to read the forums (as I said). Pretty useful stuff, since there's no Help file to give anyone an advantage.

I think the fundamentals of what can and can't be done and how Shadora's different aspects work are shown near the bottom of every important page, such as the messages page, viewing all your monsters, marching into another land, etc.
Weirdymike, you don't HAVE to have steeds to march troops onto uncontested lands. You just need them to help with monsters that can't normally march into certain lands. When you decide to invade a place, the list of which monsters to bring into battle shows you if a monster needs a steed or not.

Allow me to clarify, Mike: Listen.
There are over twenty some types of troops for recruitment in TSC. There are about 50 different terrain types. Each troop averages only about 15 different terrains a single troop can move to. Therefore, I'm fairly certain that, since you are new, you only have some of the more selective troops who cannot go to many of the more common terrain types. If you look around the map and read the helpful roll-over info on the portion that tells the terrain types of each location, you will be able to find a terrain that your current army can go to.
For example: Have a Kymplemist or Astrynam? Check over by the waters for a good spot to grab. Have anything with earth element in it? Chances are, the mountains are a good choice. Have about anything? Check the big open grass lands in the middle. Most everything can go to the plains.
Starting out, while difficult, is not impossible. You just have to learn who is an easy target and who is someone who you should not bother. Example: If someone has only one terrain, they may be new and easy pickin's. If someone owns 50% of the map, ... try to avoid them.
And, the last bit of advice: just because you are a newbie doesn't mean you have to act like a "n00b". That's advice, now.

While Kero is prob not the best to start with it will be the best teacher for you. Just remember to view your choice before laying down (after your first one of course). Look at the enemy if you are going to attack and see what they are weak against. There is a button you can click on to do this with. Remember you dont have to kill your opponnet but you do need more land. Lastly dont drop all your guys at once they will be eaten alive if you do. While Im no where near the best at this game It is what I would consider sound advise.

maybe I should just retreat and spare myself the loss of my soldiers..
and I dont think Kero would willingly give me this territory.
hey, did u realise there is only about 15 peoples names on the map? kero, goblin and another guy control about 4/5ths lol

That's actually a valid and self-hating question once you learn the answer.
Pretty much, know how the URL bar will read "yadda-yadda-yadda-YourUsername" when viewing the places that you have a claim to? Well, you just swap your name with another user's name. Don't you feel like kicking yourself now? It's okay.
It's just like the real thing, only cuddly.

Is it possible to pause battles?
(I know about the once a year holiday battle pausing...but yeah) I had a battle with (kero?) someone and when I checked it, it had disappeared.... Possibly because I left it but I don't think I did as I check this place every day....hmmm?

EDIT: sorry draggy I was creating a new tech and didn't realise I had to actually attack anyone...and yeah...t'was random

* plants a virtual Intel tree with 8 fruit *
(one for each person; two for me)
Yes it is possible to pause battles, it's called Wait-Until-The-Last-Day-To-Act.
We need another continent, or suckier players controlling prime lands.

Yeah, items names cannot have spaces or underscores, the name will end after the space and everything else is just extra detail and underscores (at least they used to) denote amount. (Anyone remember Blaser n00bs?) Furthermore, you can't do anything with weirdymike's master because you do not have it, he does. And the person who plants a tree can't pick anything from it, nor can the next person (me). Oh well, AMD kicks Intel's arse anyway.

Not by MaximumPC's comparisons...
At any rate, Kupoling, I suggest you remove my name from that list of "do-not-attack"...because pretty much anyone can defeat me. Unlike Draggy, Kero, or Lymfada, I don't look ahead that much...or maybe none of them plan ahead, but it ends up that I can't put my units anywhere, all tiles are bad.
