It is a rule that after five days, the battle ends; leaving the player with the most monsters on field, or if tied, the most tiles remaining, would win a fight. While that system itself works flawlessly, I have been having a problem with one certain aspect of this. TIME!!!

I do not keep track of time very well, hence I often do not realize how many days my battle has been taking place. While this problem seems trivial, it actually CAN give an opponent a useful advantage.

I have been in this situation a few times. Myself and the opponent are making moves quickly at a certain point in the battle (within half-hour intervals), and then, when I make a move that is pretty much the "killing move", my opponent suddenly stops acting. Instead of battling it out, the rest of the game becomes a "waiting game", to disperse troops not much earlier than the game ends, hence making a forced victory (having more monsters on the field, and also having more tiles), regardless of the fact that by normal circumstances, you would have won.

The only way to try and fight this tactic is to throw your own monsters out on the battle field, despite the fact that there are no enemy monsters out on the field. Putting monsters out on the field can often give your opponent a MAJOR advantage (as they can put their remaining monsters out, and take out a number (if not all) of your remaining monsters in one felled swoop.

To at least partially mend the situation; I feel a timer should be built in to the battle screen, telling you how much time (at least by the hour) remained in the battle. That way you can at least counter that same strategy more effectively.

It is just a request, but I think it would improve the battle system. So... yay or nay, Mintman?

...And flaming creatures rained down from the skies, engulfing both land and sea aflame. Upon that day, the prophecy was made.

While I think this is a good idea, remember that the 5 day time limit is done manuelly by Mint, It does not always happen in 5 days also if a battle is accepted at 3pm it will not end at 3pm 5 days later. I think Mint updates around 9 pacific but im not sure on that. If you can try and check it once a day. Also the date it starts is listed in your log when you look at the battles.

It was only done manually at the beginning; the script kills any battle at twelve-o'-one sharp every day now. This is the same type of system that kills BD challenges; "five days" simply means "the midnight after a period one hundred and twenty hours from the acceptance of the battle."

Five days just happens to be a lot easier.

Second, as old as you are, Sanis, you should know full friggin' well by now to never make a suggestion ever for the same frickin' reasons I near constantly state.

Let's now have a gander at the TSC update list:

  1) Monster Used & Defeated count under Tile count
  2) Monster mobility for marching into a terrain displayed in form of dimming and small text message
  3) Effective/ineffective scripted to actual effect, sans preview, complete with total tile gain
  4) Hashes instead of arrays for monster cataloging in battle
  5) Monsters
  6) Lots on non-scripted files, including tutorials, charts, and a layout
  7) Preferences and information changing at log-in
  8) Semi-safe areas to prevent repeated attack
  9) Battle extender whenever action occurs in the last twelve hours
  10) And finally, a display of when battle ends, which is fuggin' Hel considering I have to compensate for scripting failures and the fact that it doesn't run exactly at midnight

As you should well-friggin'-know, I always have more than enough things I have to do for all of my games. Unfortunately, I do not have all the blutty free time in the world and must conform to the space time continuum.
Just because I haven't done something overbearingly obvious and helpful as an update doesn't mean I won't do it -- it means I don't have any time, YFFI.

As for your battles, of course you are going to be behind. You have to get ahead of your opponent's tile count; at that, you can stop. If you cannot get ahead of their count, then you deserve to be defeated as that is what being defeated constitutes: not being in the lead.
It ain't so much of a disadvantage if you just place your monstas smarter to give you a greater leg up. It is very possible to be screwed far ahead of time against an opponent because of their line-up versus yours, and that is why a retreat feature exists. You cannot win 'em all.

Whoa Minty, calm down! I'm not demanding this or anything, it was just a suggestion for a *future* update (future basically being, whenever you got the time).

It's not like I don't know what it means to be busy to the point of near-insanity. Free time rarely comes for me, as I am constantly bombarded with work. Heck, my teacher tells me about some crazy engineering (usually not even relevant to our subject) project EVERY DAY. It isn't like I am complaining about the system, merely giving my opinion on something that can be done to improve it. No one said I was ordering you around, like you said, I've been around long enough to know that.

Anyway... I'll refrain from posting about that again. I don't exactly want to envoke your wrath.

Not easily peaved; I just get mad-pissed when people do something I constantly tell them not to do because of the potential legal bind I can get into. Me doing something that someone suggested -- even though I already had it well planned -- can be construed as me taking and using an idea, for which I could be required by saying party to provide some sort of compensation.
I am not doing that. Thus, I clearly and constantly state in the forums never to make any suggestions ever.

I see. I didn't know you had done that for legal protection. I may have been around for a while, but I never actually saw anyone else really recommend something to you, hence I didn't know giving suggestions (even obvious ones, as you mentioned) would be anything particularly... bad. Don't worry, I don't exactly intend on bringing legal action... quite frankly, I am astounded people actually CAN do that when they freely GIVE their ideas away. Regardless, I now understand your reasoning. Unless I suffer some case of amnesia, expect not to see it again. Shifty Eyes

Well, that's the end of suggestions from me. Sorry about all the times that I irritated you with my stupid ideas that you parried away like an adept swordsman would deflect an arrow launched by a fledgling archer...ooh, similes.

However, I am getting quite annoyed at the fact that Shiningwood doesn't have a moment's peace...but ah well, I guess that I'm not the only one who was attracted to the "shiny" prefix Smile
