Hey everyevery, it seems a bit early for my apparently yearly update to FtRPG, but here it ams anyways. And although it could use a li'l more fancy in its pantsy, the FtRPG Console is now actually usable what with displaying the tokens inside of techs, explaining innate commands right there, and filling out all of the blanks for you (except for the Blank token, ironically enough, which I am pretty sure the new console just ignores altogether... for the time being ).
Moving on quickly enough so you'll forget about that (stop reminding them, stupid me!), I tested out quite a few different situations (read: me and Gobbo's account), but I could easily be missing something for the less fleshed-out forum users (read: anyone but me and Gobbo's account), so if you happen to see a problem when using the new interface -- y'know, about a month or five from now when someone actually decides to both post and use FtRPG -- it is very probably understandable. Just yell at me, and once you cool down and are no longer a threat to virtually assault me, I'll fixxy-up your RP combative abilities.
And in case you're wondering, yes, I did just make this topic so that the REcent activity wouldn't be entirely exclusive to a single Classics topic.
And in case you're also wondering, the answer is still yes -- I have gone completely insane...r.

Yay, so does that mean in this thread we should spa...er, TEST it. Yes, test it to make it better. Riight.
Good to know you're not going sane on us!

Wow, this is much easier. We're gonna get lazy at this rate. Lugiatrainer, were you expecting to be attacked or something?

Here's the thing I find funny. I didn't even know this topic was made. I just thought, "Oh, looks like Ems threw out the new console to no fan fare." Yep, that's how bustlin' these parts of RE go.

The new set up is rather nice. I'm drawing a blank on what could be done to improve it. Yuck yuck yuck! "This is a mirror of your society!"

I actualy do see something a bit odd. Moving the mouse over the little sword on the bottom left in Afiag's post reveals the phrase 'Lugiatrainer uses on Afiag' Unless I'm mistaken, Lugiatrainer hasn't actually targeted Afiag with anything, right?

Well, yes and no. LT used a Shield tech, which should target any offender with a forged technique. This would normally mean death for Afiag, especially with a foolish little dance against such a defended opponent, but Lugiatrainer didn't bother pairing it with a real item -- just a piddle, nothing, fabricated one.
Not only that, but apparently, Lugiatrainer is still following a naming convention which is technically referred to as a "stupid f***in'" variety. Using Umbrella with an umbrella? Why not use a technique Sword with a Longsword? Swing, strike, or coule with swords? Screw that noise! Use nouns, not common sense!
Blutty 'el, I would give him a tech called R-Tard and put it in permanent effect, but he's apparently beat me to the punch.
And no, I shan't let up on you until you stop making those stupid item techniques. * uses LandSmite on Lugiatrainer for gooder measure *
So congratulations, Lugiatrainer, you singlehandedly broke FtRPG with your sucky naming convention. That, or a missing letter "d" in a constant name that separated "FORGE" from "FORGED" Okay, maybe that was the real cause, but could we really be sure your double-deuce umbrella wouldn't have caused the exact same error? I think not.
At least the console is still bugless, tho'. This is apparently an old thing that's never come up before what with how few people have Shields and all.

So...Shield wouldn't actually work on its own? I could have sworn I'd had it be fine on it's own before... Anyway, once I can get some combine/cross tokens, I'll be adding Umbrella and Boomstick into better named techs, considering the glacial pace I seem to learn tokens at...it'll be a while. * uses HolyResurrection as a reminder that not all his techs have totally stupid names *

No, Shield still worked -- on its own or otherwise. I mean, I do test these things.
It was simply that no one was ever (or at least noticed to be) targeted by an opponent in the duration of the Shield with a non-forged item. If a shielder was ever left alone or bothered to use a decent item with the tech, no negative effect would have been seen.
Problem was with the Shield thinking a tech existed on fabricated items -- which they don't -- due to a failed bit check, thus the declaration of a nothingness tech being used. No functionality was actually effected; it was just an errant message.

Just a question before I go and break things, would the console support strange letters such as æ, ñ, and Ä for names and such?

Lunes: Pretty much everything on the site checks to make sure user input only contains word characters (alphanumeric and underscores), so such an attempt would be foiled. I don't even think they would be all that dangerous for techs, but it is pretty stupid to try to put extended characters on the web without their designated &code; format.
Draki: Just like with Stealing, Shwielding with a fabbed item sorta eliminates the point of the token in the first place and should really only be done in desperation. I know a problem. Well, at least something lacking. The old version told us how much health we had. This one doesn't.

1) Why did you mark the Adventurer class? I mean, really? I don't even think I have even allowed for that to happen for years now, what with how utterly worthless it is. You people really shoulda been more picky than to simply learn every token ever available to you just because it was available. * uses NonDesperationBomb on Dragon_Kirby's SeaBreeze *
2) Just like the previous console, life only appears when the RP data is created through either damage or targeting or other forms.
There was some reason for doing that, too, probably stemming from some idiot complaining about something, thus requiring, um, stuff. Idiots are the reason for everything, after all. Well, I guess idiots aren't responsible for this. * turns around and brings forth a CannonCrusher on Afiag with a SeaBreeze so that the targeting will give her life! * "And I know this all because I have a PhD in being awesome." ~ Sean Carless

Actually, I could've swore I had it set at Rogue. Oh well. I'll go to the Mage classes now.

Anything in the wizard side could turn into something on the priest (cleric) side more quickly than using the Marker token to go back to the beginning -- and be more useful at that. Pretty much everything on either end is only a hop and a skip away from either Acolyte or Thaumaturgist or Oracle or... dang, how many hybrid white/black magic classes are there? A ton, apparently.
Yeah, when I updated the console, I even prevented the initial four classes from being marked. I should prevent backwards change to them altogether. Dawdling on them is probably one of the primary reasons no one has anything. * in a blatant display of not having nothing and of litotes, creates a NotNobodyAxe * "And I know this all because I have a PhD in being awesome." ~ Sean Carless

But I thought you had to go back a tier to switch class?

I believe that most class changes are up or lateral in nature. There's the bottom rung of first classes, then pretty much everything else is in the middle, and then you have the top classes that can only be reached after being so many other classes. That's basically three levels. You really only need to shift about that middle area. No need to go back down. Unless you forgot your booze there. Oh, snap! I think I left that at cleric class!

(Is it just me, or has it been a good while since we've had a visit from ol' bogglemoticon?)
In addition to what Gobbs said, you would never have to "go down a tier" anytime ever since all four of the basic classes (Fighter, Priest, Mage, and Rogue) have an entirely superior version (Warrior, Abbot, Wizard, and Thief) that can do everything they can do and then some -- tokens and class changes (I think) and all. This bundled on top o' the fact that pretty much every class above those piddle ones is essentially a better version of or a fusion of two basic class principles.
Adventurer, on the other hand, is unique in that its superior version, the Paragon, is harder to become and can't class change into the sucky, first four classes. Boohoo. On the other hand, every token that the Adventurer can learn is learnable by at least a good quarter of the other classes, and I have to say that on sole account of the Steal token. Otherwise, the percentage would be much higher. So yeah, it is stupid, too. As it is supposed to be, 'cause it is the starting class.
Where'd you even get that backtrack idea into your head, anyway? * plants a virtual Classless tree -- just like he is! * "First and foremost, I am evil. Where? Not sure. But that's what I've been doing, is going back to rogue ad then up to whatever specific class I wanted next. You know, there is very little on class-changing in the FAQ. It doesn't even have it's own topic.
