E-Mail Web Site Master Account Battling Dragons Shadow Aura Endless Night's Dream R.E. League Reply w/ Quote Edit Post

  Okay, here's the low-down:
It's a play-by-e-mail RPG. However, no game could ever be completely contained in e-mail form. A site is required for information. The site has sign-up info and forms as well as posted news. A list of members is maintained as well as other events that others may have done significant enough for other members to need to hear about it (usually Gym Challenges).
When you challenge a Gym Leader, it goes to the polls. A Gym Leader would be one of the originals from the GB game until a member assumed the position. It was a first-come, first-serve basis as far as I remember. When a Gym Leader, you obtained a special Gym Pokemon which could only be used when defending in Gym Battles (usually of very high level). You would choose which Pokemon of yours went out against the Gym Leader's and members would vote which would win based on current attacks, levels, and species. A winner would get the badge and the gym TM (if no member assumed the position, it would be the standard GB TM, but a member would usually change the Gym TM to something a little more sensical like Rock Slide for the Boulder Badge). Also on the site would be a list of shops and other things to buy (any character could buy wacky things like Cloning Centers, et cetera). The member's shops would also be listed there. The idea was to get lower prices than the stock-shops, usually by buying in bulk (Jackdaw/Mad Goblin was the master of this). Part of the site was the forum, where auctions for Pokemon took place. High level characters could catch high-leveled Pokemon and sell them to struggling lower people for a pretty profit.
Now, an e-mail RPG works something like a forum-based RPG except turns are kept entirely secret. You wouldn't know what other members were doing at the time, especially since members could be Rockets.
When you started, you would have to write a first turn, which really should have introduced your character, his Pokemon, and just all around what he was doing there. The idea is to write creatively (even tho' few members actually did). You e-mailed your turn to the Kinak's PokéBattle e-mail address where turn raters would evaluate it. They would then reward experience (in levels, depending on how well the turn was written) and then set up the new situation for a member. In a turn, you could fight an enemy trainer, catch a new Pokemon, or just do anything pretty much. You just had to make it make sense and do it well. You also had to work with what you were given. If you are in the forest, you can't all the sudden pop into the middle of a crowded city and try to stop a fire. Players scenery had to make sense. There were also long-term goals a character would have to declare, like a traveling route to where and in which direction. This would allow Turn Raters to set up appropriate events.
Now comes Reality's End. Member numbers rose. Turn rating got a lot harder. I came in and offered the idea of the Link Battler. Now, few remember the original R.E. League that operated entirely on cookies, but data used to be transfered via URL in a query string (the thing after the question mark in a URL). Since it was convinient, I set up a system by which a Turn Rater could create a battle on a page, copy the URL and place it on the site, send a member a link to the page with the list of links of Link Battles, tell the member which to click on, have them fight an R.E. League battle using their Kinak's Pokémon, and the results would instantly be e-mailed to the Turn Rater on the battle's end. This was a good thing for a lazy rater or a member that couldn't write to save his life.
So that's how Reality's End got involved. Save now, I can do a whole lot more than that. Turns would still be e-mailed out to members, but the member would then receive a link to a page in which he or she could fill out his or her turn. The turn will be automatically archived under the member's turn folder, and a link added to a list of unrated turns. This list could be seen by certified Turn Raters in order of the oldest unrated turn, thereby allowed them to answer turns when they feel like it.

That's pretty much it -- I think. If I left out anything some of you old members feel free to fill in.
At any rate, we all want to bring back this golden era in e-mail RPGing, but I really want to bring it back to start a revolution in it. This new R.E. League mixture will put forum-based RPGs in their place with all of its wacky functions and creative outletting. I really want to get to work on't, but I've got some other things I should take care of real fast, so let's look at the old data tables and try to correct 'em first thing, eh? So now that it is all explained, let only the Kinak's PokéBattle people concern themselves with the resurrection of this game. We need to get down to business.

Ok...Lets start! I will try to think of more jobs. And would it be pointless to offer the try and program the link battler cookie thing again? Or does KK have it covered? What else needs to be done...Like, do we need to set up an e-mail account, or is KK going to do all the programing and I just help manage it?

Don't worry about an e-mail addy or the battler. I can code all of that now that I've got a really fly server. Instead of e-mail, us turn-raters will just have a page.
Okay, new careers... let's see.... what else is evil but not a Rocket? I'd say we need some of that. What about Shine-persons? We can have priests or maidens or something in servitude to a particular Pokemon. That'd make some wacky stuff, wouldn't it? First cleric of a family species (i.e. a shrine to Poliwhirls and Poliwags would be the same thing since they are family) would be the temple leader and others could join in. That's some takin' from G/S's Bellsprout Tower...
Do we have scientists yet? My compy goin' slow so I can't load out a lotta stuff right now, but some science-type would probably really help. I don't know what they could do, tho'. Maybe they could act as some sort of alchemist or artificer, makin' funky custom PokeBalls or Potions or something. Yes yes...

Scientists, and temple dudes would be cool. Custom Pokeball makers would rock...How bout like Managers and employ system? Like, you manage a shop and you hire people to be employees? Or is that too hard?...

Managers, I believe, would just be an advanced shopkeep. Of course, anyone could build up to that status in time.
As for Pokeball forgers, that sounds like a type of sub-type of scientist. What would you call that? Inventors?
And, as a sub note, is there already a job like 'explorer', or something? Like, someone who travels afar looking for rare and valuable things and studies? Hmm, guess that another faction of scientist, researcher, but you get me point... right? Ah, who cares...

the exporer was kinda what i described earlier just in defferent words, i specificly (or at least i think specifically) said you go in search of rare items, and do what u want like keep it for your self, or give it to someone for a little reward....or another rare item
i bet this post was a stupid one....well maybe...

How about a nomadic peddler (note name can change easily!) he's like an item salesmen only not normal items, like the rarer more mystrious items, or the stones. How about just Nomad. There could be... hmmmm mercinaries could be good or evil or just neutral. Cops or lawmen or something, maybe for a lot of the jobs we should have opposites? Anyway turn raters could play too right?

Speaking of turn raters, since Goblin, Ash10, and I are the originals, this brings up something I was thinkin' about the other day.
Now, Kinak never actually played his game. We did. We ran and played it. Thing is, we are gonna have some trouble now with running it and all. I prolly would get almost nothing done with all the work I'm doing.
So comes in my idea: imps. Anyone here familiar with MUDs? The runners of MUDs, implementors, are god-lyke characters in their games. I propose we do close to the same.
I don't know what you could be, Ash, but I could be, of course, the Apothecary and Jackdaw the Standard Market from which even member shops purchase their supplies. We would start off with advantages no one else is entitled to just to help us manage things a little bit better at the start. So whatcha think?

As for those classes, take a tip from D&D -- don't make unnecessary classes. That nomadic salesman is nothing more than a specialized shopkeeper; we want to fill broad categories, not little niches.
The explorer does sound as though it might merit its own class. There might be enough degrees of seperation between that and scientist since explorers might also be in search of rare Pokemon.
Oh yeah, this brings up another thing I thought of: ridding of the Rocket class. I think we should break it down into Thief and Hunter. The title Rocket should be assigned to those who actually join up with the gang while in game play. That allows them to have more of a class selection (or a class selection at all) now that we have more classes (would it be fair that the rockets should have no scientists?). Well, Idunno, do you think there is enough to make Thieves and Hunters different classes, or should we just have Thieves alone instead? Now, for those of you who think this idea is crazy, just think of a Robin Hood character -- you could be a good Thief that steals from the Rockets, but under the old system, you would have no such liberty.

ok that sounds good, but we should probably define all the classes on a site or something soon, from what I've heard here we go
  -Shopkeeper/Salesman:Sells stuff to people
  -Hunter(Rocket):Who knows? A pokemon hunter?
  -Priest/cleric:Religious guy.
  -Theif(Rocket):Steals stuff from people.
  -Explorer:Explores ruins, forests, whatnot.
-Scientists/Pokeball forgers:Does sciency stuff makes pokeballs.(could be seperate)
  -Others?
Anyway, maybe we should also have an anti-rocket group. Like vigilantes.
I'm not sure what it would be called, but it seems like a good idea now. And Everybody in the brainstorming process right now will be an imp right?
Plus one last thing, could we have classes that must be earned? Or should we I might ask? Like a class better than normal for people who have done great, to keep it from geting stale. One other last thing (i'm thinking really fast right now) Maybe like there could be organized wars between the classes, they wouldn't have to be like wars (maybe gang fights between rockets) now that I think of it there could be two branches or rockets, hunters vs. theives. But have special stuff like that set up for certain times. Anybody who's played Astonia knows what I'm talking about (the live quests). Anyway, adding some new and exciting features, laying out what we have so far, and asking som questions.

GoD, what a coincidence in the game i got some of the ideas from there are gods who are the best players (usually the creator of the game) and imps (usually people who help gods, or are friends) they are lower and have lesser power, but for an even lower power as i a power to reckon with....

but i jut have yet again, another idea...im not quite sure if it's possible but did u ever hear of an lq in a game? (lq=live quest) well if possible it's be interesting to have one in one of Realitysend games.

what it basically is, is where a god, or imp (the god being mintman since he made it, or imp which would be a helpr of mintman)he creates enemys for different levels to fight, the monsters then try to invade what your protecting......such as a temple, or to take an important item (such as the scrolls in astonia) usually afteward the god would give the heros who save the village temple, etc a reward such as exp, or a rare item.

i guess mintman will like this since everyone would have to call him god.........maybe it wasn't a good i dea bringing this up...
i bet this post was a stupid one....well maybe...

All these ideas! Ok, and KK, I would be captain breeder! See, when I signed up, I was a breeder. I didn't get to do much...But I used my ranch for free! HA! Sorry...But I would have like the all star breeding center. I like most of the new classes, and yes, the Rocket class does need to be broken down. Hunter and Theif are good. And there are so many ideas...Man...Uh...Ok, we have a lot of ideas, but keep brainstroming. After I am done my homework, I am going to try and start creating like a big thing with all the improvements and add ons. That way we can keep track of it. I then will post it on my site, and you guys can check regulary on the adding and fixing of the stuff. And KK, when you are done the transfer, and if you we are going to make this RPG forums based sorta thing, I think the Edit Account Function needs to be added...Cause my sig is wrong...And for the game.

Wow, good idea stuffins. Anyhoo, I think everyone has comepletely overlooked one of the ol' jobs: Constable. Since we had Rockets, we also had Police to combat them. Tight competition right there.

Anyhoo, here's a big ol' list of starting jobs from someone with control in the game, right from the site (since its impossible to see it at the site '`_`) and with the good ones we've added :

  • Trainer - Your run-o-the-mill wanna-be-a-master trainer

  • Constable - Help take a bite out of crime! Whether it be personal or for a living

  • Breeder - 'stead of adventurin', just stay home an' raise a bunch o' crazy critters

  • Shoppe Keep - Sell and compete in the market

  • Apothecary - Help others get better (name changed in tribute)

  • Cleric - Devote yourself to a temple

  • Scientist - Spend your time in study and research

  • Thief - Make a living by burglarizing hapless people!

And now, old positions that have been turned into organizations :

  • Rocket - Be evil!

  • The Police - The collection of Trainers who aspire to do good

  • Gym Members - Just as in the game, gyms are packed with loyal fans of the leader, so you can be, too!

  • The Elite - (don't set your sights on this one, kiddies) For da big dawgs, the highest ranked people are seated on this lofty throne. Dem ppl bein' KK, A-X, and moi.

And, as a final note, I suggest that aside from the standard geography from the game itself that we put, far out to sea, an unspoiled lump of clay to be sculpted by the players of the game. They go to it and set up arenas and shrines, and from there springs up towns and more. Wouldn't that rock?

... well, I think I babbled enough... later.

  *new idea*
ok, i think this is a good one....
as your pokemon reach new levels in strength such as evolving or getting a 10 level difference from the last time you "ranked", you get some special moves as a trainer "level" will increase, for instance when all your pokemon reach level 10 you get to add a slight bonus to attacks, as you gain more "ranks" you get more of these slight enhancements to the attacks, making your pkmn have more of a variety in stengths.

here are the names (note u may only reach the last rank if all pokemon are level 100, so if ya don't u will hav the previous "ranks" power.)

  novice(no rank)= no extra power
  weaktrainer(1 rank)= plus 5 agil
  poketrainer(2 ranks)= plus 5 attack power, plus 5 agil
cooltrainer (3 ranks)= plus 5 attack power, plus 5 agil, plus 5 defence
  strong trainer(4 ranks) + 5 attack power,+ 5 agil, + 5 def, + 5 special att
  exceling trainer (5 ranks)+10 att power,+ 5 agil,+5 def,+5 special att
  elite trainer (6 ranks)+10 att power,+10 agil,+5 def,+5 special att
  gym beater (7 ranks)+10 att power,+10 agil,+5 def,+5 special att
  gym leader (8 ranks)+10 att power,+10 agil,+10 def,+5 special att
  pokemaster (9 ranks)+10 att power,+10 agil,+10 def,+10 special att
  elite pokemaster (final rank)+15 att power,+15 agil,+15 def,+15 special att,+20 hp.

i bet this post was a stupid one....well maybe...

Here's a good question that Goblin quickly referenced: What are you people still doing here?
See, when we said that we were gonna resurrect Kinak's PokeBattle, we meant... we, as in the original players. You people shouldn't even be here right now as we have said many times. You are getting in the way and clouding this post with suggestions and stuff which -- no offense -- are meaningless as you have never played nor even seen this game before. Most of you can't even fathom what it was even like! So, please, just cut it out.

LQ? 'Fraid not. As I have said many, many times, such a game requires massive bandwidth, a luxury which does not come cheap and hence, not to me. When I get a college server, I plan on programming some wack stuff -- most likely a new Arena Terrae that will load out at a decent speed and be non-HTML based. That would help a lot.

And Ash, the forum and all workings for KPB will be seperate of this forum here. I'd make for it a seperate directory so that it would not interfere with other End activities. Besides, we don't want every member who signs up for KPB to have to sign up for the forum too just in order to make posts. I'll take care of that in one blanket thing (that, and it will be a very simplified forum as per the need of the RPG).

It's late now and I am very tired from moving and testing R.E. League files. I'll sleep on some more ideas (most likely try to remember some that I forgot) and I'll get back on this tomorrow.

I won't delete them; it's just when he said "brainstorm," he meant people with actual weight in the game.
See, I don't mind if you all want to stick around for the final product, but bringing it back is something only we can do as we are the only people remaining for Kinak's old days of glory...

Speaking of which, I thought of a new idea. Originally, it was for a brainstorming session on what the general plot of the RPG should be, but when I thought of this, it seemed too good to pass up (and Jack agrees with me) -- Feudal Japan.
Think about it: Pokemon with shogun warriors and ninjas while retaining an odd sort of remnant technology. This would be something that no one has ever even thought of before, and gives us a lot of interesting thing to do (Gyms are Dojos, Stones are those that belong to Dragons which grant them all of their abilities, the Chi energy which is used so much in Japan's Pokemon vacant from ours would come into a new light, etc.). I mean, you could have a monk walking outside with a candle when a Rocket suddenly bears down on him riding a motorcycle!
One thing about this is it gives us a firm foundation to go off of. A quick study here-and-there of ol' Japan can give this RPG some particular drive and direction. Gold would be used instead of yen or dollars. Every adventuring class would have goals based on what someone of that era would actually do. I'm also thinking we could get some dragon gods involved in this for a real wacky-good time... yes yes.
Well, I'm babbling too much on that. I should really stop until Ashy get's his two cents in on it.

I have just a few more quick ideas. Every class should have two basic facets to it just to make sure every class is even: something that any class can get, and something that only that class can get. For example, a Shopkeeper starts with a shop. Anyone with enough money can buy one of those. However, they should get a special ability to make sure not just any class could entirely usurp them, so Shopkeeps should be able to appraise and authenticize any item (know its value, name, and whether it's a fake or not). This makes Shopkeepers able to extend into a Treasure Hunting sort. Now, we can do this for every class as well.
Another quick thought is that we should enforce MUD-lyke naming conventions. Only actual names should be able to be names in this RPG. You wouldn't go around calling someone Eevee9 or Puffpaddy. When we accept applicants, we should enforce that they use an actual name.
I think gyms should be able to be conquered. This could make for good plot devices (Rockets taking over a gym or a gym member taking it over when discovering the current leader is a Rocket). Gym Pokemon should double in level for this, however, and more stipulations should also apply to make this very difficult.
Speaking of Rockets, now that it isn't a class, that status should be kept secret until full-blown and revealed. This allows for infiltration and fun stuff on a Rocket's behalf.

C'mon Mint, I actually want to be part of a game for once. Besides, some of us might be able to bring better elements to this game than you original guys come up with. And you may be limiting your horizons to much because you have something set out for you. Youcan delete this if you want as it has not much to do with this topic (you can delete any topic neway), but still let me and msanis and some other people who I'm too lazy to check for help. On a related note I lik the feudal japan thing, but not the name limiting. I think they should be reasonable names, but not gay crap like Eevee9 or whatever. I should be able to keep VinnyD, and it should be a bit mor lenient.

"More lenient" rids of the entire point. See, in RPGs, your names are supposed to be in character. In a fantasy MUD, you are supposed to have a medieval-sounding name. If this RPG were staying the way it used to be, VinnyD would be an acceptable name. However, in a feudal Japan setting, everyone here would have to make up a new name (except for me since it's already Japanese *tee hee*).
As for all your guys help, like I said (or at least like I think I said) we are gonna bring this thing back since you people have no blutty idea what it's even like. We shall still need help once it is out, but that's it. Sorry to crush your hopes, but Jack, Ash, and I had this thing running pretty smoothly, and why ruin a good thing? More input results in more problems and further discussions. Look how hard it is for just us three to converse in this post? We really need a better form of converse... I should start going into my chat room again....

Sorry about not replying everyone. I have been having lots of homework, and the FCAT thing and stuff have put restrictions on what I was able to do. Now that it is all over, I can come back and talk. KK all the ideas so far are good from you. The Gym's beaten and stuff would be cool. Ok, now lets get down to heavy details...Like I think we should start soon because with anymore ideas it is going to take forever to get this all programmed and going.

... well, um, like I've been saying, we have to get all of the basic data done before any programming can commence.
Let's start with sign-up. Okay, accounts will need log-in names, passwords, e-mail addresses, and web site URLs just for fun. Now, depending on whether or not we restrict character names, we may want different entries in between log-in names and actual character names (some places do this; in an RPG, it prevents a user from having to type in a possibly over-sized character name for log-in). A character also needs a starting Pokemon and occupation. Thus we come to what we've all been fearing: actually compiling a giant table of that data. Now, to date, we have the following classes: Trainer, Constable, Breeder, Shoppe Keep, Apothecary, Cleric, Scientist, Thief, and possibly a Fighter class (a class I recently thought of but waited to reveal until the Feudal Japan-esque thing was accepted or not; pretty much a class of things that can fight as well as it's Pokemon. More or less, it can be a ninja or shogun, etc). Now, each of these needs starting equipment and abilities. *eye twitches* the lists just keep piling up Okay, equipment time -- if anyone can think of anything else we need, just mention it:

PokeBall, GreatBall (UltraBall wasn't in the old KPB? Do we want it?), Potion, Super Potion (Ethers would have little use as PP doesn't exist), Intensifier (that is the thing that rose your level for one fight, right?), Antidote, Evolutionary Stones, Clefairy Doll, Incubator, Fishing Rod, Master's Fishing Rod, Net, (now for some new ones) most attachable items from G/S, Scroll and Brush, Lock Pick (for breakin' in to places), tinker's kit (for makin' gadgets), cloak, tent, cooking pot, flint and steel (for starting fires), rations, Steel Horse (a Motor Cycle; Jack thought up the name), caltrops, rope, arms, and armor (that can be elaborated later).

As you can tell by some of my additions, I'm trying to go for a more true-RPG quality. If anyone has any additions or edits to this list, say them now.
Here are some original items that I removed from the list: Rubber Suit (gaaaaaaaay!), Rare Candy (Do we really want people leveling up like this?), Large Candy, Condensed Candy (I don't even know...), PokeDex (stay as far from the anime as humanly possible; if someone wants to record what they see, they can just use a scroll and brush), and Safari Zone tickets (rid from the standard market; if someone wants to open their own Safari Zone, let them sell the tickets).
*feels that is enough for today*
