There has been a lot of hubbub about how the forums have slid downhill a lot recently, and some of the old members are complaining about this (even tho' this sliding largely includes simply more activity). As such, here is a post for all you old school R.E.ers out there!
If you are a new person (i.e. anyone that came after VinnyD; if you didn't realize when he signed up for the forums, then you are labeled a new-comer) then stay far away from this post as replying in it will result in deletion and other repercussions
Okay, now let us elders discuss things that we would so far back in the day! Of course, discussion back then was mostly just days with only one reply being made if we were lucky. There was only one Nidhogg Drake, and even he was still under level thirty. Ryuujin occassionally came by, bringing with him both boon and bane of wisdom and thought-so.... hey, whatever happened to him, anyway? There was more than one Drake. Remember Unix, the guy from REL's Waterfall Gym? He had one around lev 20. I used to challenge him everyday just in hopes that maybe SOMEHOW I'd win. Now with all of these new people here, I actually am in the half of people who have been here long enough to remember things such as........well not many updates happened a long time ago. I remember the Dave Thomas entrance. And some other stuff. I can't remember when I just began, other than I missed that damn test by one! All you had here then was Beatles and a few other video game songs. Oh, and I think there were less smilies. Plus we had one girl here then but she went crazy or something, can't remember. That was when I think I used that gay homestead editor. Hmm, my website has been created and recreated so many times. I'm so off-topic right now it isn't funny.Teamsters, so lazy and surly..

Yes! Chichirou Mai or whatever her name was. That was the forum's first odd-ball member. She wasn't really bad, but she was way too emotional and over-reactive. She was around for a real short time and began ranting on about her personal problems (of which no one cared ) and left, much to no one's care. Wow, that really takes me back.
Unix had a Drake, too? Was that on VirtualAVe, or did he actually get deleted as an inactive account on the move to RealitysEnd.com?
Does anyone remember that one guy (whose name escapes me) who had two accounts. He pounded on the lesser account non-stop and actual rose a level higher than mine? That was before and the cause of many of the modern security systems. Sucker got it hard-core when I deleted him.
And boy-howdy was he pissed off about it
Yeah, there used to be much less smileys -- less than one full line, I do believe. From the boggle-eyes on weren't even close to existing. Aren't you people so glad I gave you more ways to express inane emotions? I know I am.
Well, that is when the forums were on Netfirms. Actually, it may have been when they were all the way back on FracturedReality. I hosted my forums there for a while, if any of you remember, when... well, it exploded for the first time.... *cough* Yeah, I'm never crawling back to that server even if it does come back. I can't stand its inconsistancy.

It was on VirtualAve, methinks. He tried coming back on when you started up RealitysEnd.com, but he never really got very active, so I guess he dropped out. Har. You make me quake with the laughter. Those don't seem far away at all to an ol' geezer like myself. What about when BD was just the 'fell's Dragon? It seemed so bad that not even I signed up for it then! (i mean, what was the point? everything was the same? battle would just come down to luck and level in the end) And you're talking about one drake? What about when there wasn't even that! I still remember how overjoyous Ems was when he first peaked lv. 20 (he displayed a slight notion of emotion it was unbelievable! *explodes*). Remember when REL was something that no one else had played before since the mechanics behind it were invented by Kes? When it itself was even unheard of and how the PsyPoke Banner Exchanged got it launched on its path to greatness until AngelFire started blocking the use of their images on other non-AF webpages causing a breakdown in the traded-link community's infrastructure? Remember the REL Webring? The Guest Book? Remember when he didn't even have that sidebar? (what was it back then? frames?) Remember before it got this layout? (i do vaguely... sorta... kinda... not really)

Few people around today are old enough to remember the Angelfire stuff, Gobbo. Cheet and Ash10 do, but I do not believe anyone else will.
Um, Reality's End almost always had the side bar. For the first very few months of its existance it did not, but the side bar quickly evolved. Although, the side bar used to come up to the top of the page and the header was a box in the middle. There also used to be a second side bar on the right side that displayed when the page was last modified. I got rid of it when I realized that because of the JavaScript music randomizer, the last modified time was simply the current time
And I never really just invented blind mechanics for the R.E. League. The initial version (which existed for only a month or two) just used very dumbed down stats. The League did not start to truly shine, however, until I got the Perl version out six months after the start -- that had full-on Azure Heights research in it. Hey, anyone here remember when AH didn't suck? How far we have come....
And then there was Kinak's PokeBattle, which used elements of the R.E. League like level and very accurate mechanics before the normal R.E. League ever got wind of it! *sigh* KPB rocked so much. I'd really like to get that project up and running again.

The guy that you were probably talking about was a guy i once knew as slayer, i heard that guy didn't get along very well....considering he hacked and stuff...and probably did some nasty things i hate to say...
But hey! i haven't talked to the guy for a while now so don't think im some wierdo like he was!
Ironically i just got to the level he got to when he quit about 1 1/2 years ago.... Level 8
Sad how having a crappy site, and no challengers can slow things down... i bet this post was a stupid one....well maybe...

Lemme think.... I remember when I first started here... my brother showed me the RE league... at the time it was run by cookies (so I assume it was at angelfire) And there was no wild battles, as I recall. There was just the maelstrom gym, and maybe a few others... I don't really remember. The Pokemon section was still called the "Poliwhirl Shrine," and I had a Pokemon site called "Bulbasaur Garden." Ah... how I've changed since then.... That was like, what, 3-5 years ago? Well, they're still a bunch of vague memories, as I only truly became an RE regular after Mintman started helping me program stuff. That was about a year or two ago, I think.
Speaking of misc. stuff, I'll probably be busier than ever soon. During the winter season, I've got plenty more band stuff that I have to do, with all region and Jr./Sr. Honor band. And I thought it'd be easier after Marching season....
That... and Metroid Prime comes out this monday! Which will mark the first FPS/FPA game I've ever coughed up money for.
Man, that's a lot of ramblin'. Oh well, If you didn't read all that, it wasn't really important anyhow. Just me remembered... stuff....
*cough* Good job, Mintman, on making up for the lack of password protected forums with threats of banning. To be completely honest, I'm sorta hoping someone stupid'll post here. Heh heh... Mintman's the funnies when he's yelling at "Noobs."

Let this give you an idea of how much the forums have changed.
I was looking for the Class Change post in the BD forum (since I changed what classes there were with the last kill script) when I noticed something. It lie on the second page of the topic lists. The dates from the lasts posts made extended from April to September.
That is a half-year span, people. The current first page of the forums contains only three measly months on it. I do not know if that suggests a resurgance in activity or if it is just a consequence of all those idiots we got hit with around summer. Remember those dorks who made seven topics as soon as they started up, usually never coming back, or came back to be idiots?
... hmmm, maybe an inactive forum is not so bad if that is the alternative.

That was hardly anyone's fault. Every forum gets idiots attracted to it no matter where it is. What seperates forums is what happens when idiots come.
For example, when a bunch of idiots started making stupid posts here, we hazed them all out. Failing that, I had to make a ban feature to stop the stupid posts from coming in. The forums did not get worse -- stupid people came and were dealt with. That is really nothing new.
Now, if idiocy comes and nothing is done about it, then there is a severe problem. Look at Azure Heights -- the greatest Pokémon research facility in the world crumbled to dust all because idiots were not nipped at the bud. I have modeled my forums in their failures; there will be no repeat of history here.

After spending 5 months wity no internet access, constant trouble from dad, and being effectivly in solitary confinement I bailed out and came back to the UK... this is my sisters suckage 90mhz 'puter, but in a few days I'll have a shiny new 2.53Ghz set up and I'll be um... burnign up the highways of cyberspace once again, making sure all lowly creatures (such as the board newbies) are once again cowering in phear of me... as per usual...
