Hehe... and now with that money you can go off and buy Deus Ex - anyway, for mintman's information:

Deus Ex is made in the 1st person style, and it does have a lot of combat in it, but that doesn't make it a 1st person shooter (I mean FF has lots of fighting but nobody marked it down as a "Turn based battler" on the basis of that, since it has a story to boot, Deus Ex in this respect follows more in suit of FF).

Firstly the game has this wonderfully detailed story that involves all the US conspiracy ideas (Illuminati, Majestic 12, the echelon spy system, area 51, roswell etc etc) - one of the story's features that amazed me is although it's a shorter story than FF7 or 8 (About 15-20 hours game time average) unlike FF7 or 8 - your actions really do have major consequences in how the story evolves, as well as what you learn of the story is entirly based on your location, since you could overhear a conversation that reveals soemthing important happening in the story, or miss talking the right person at the right time to figure soemthing out. In the end, there are *3* possible endings to the game too! - Show me an FF game that offers that (I don't mean, slightly different versions of the same result, I mean 3 TOTALLY different endings with completely different outcomes, none of them being the "right" ending - although one ending could be called the "American" ending since it results in people getting total freedom, but at the cost everything)

With mission objectives they can be completed any myriad of ways, and it really is a game where you can do it YOUR way, whether you wnat to get your face in "frontal assault" magazine, sneak in without a fight, talk diplocmaticly with the right people or hack your way through computer systems. The contents of the levels are not stagnant things with only items you need, they're full of everything you'd find in the real world, and everything can be inetracted with - books, newspapers, phones, computer terminals, furniture, plants even beer or drugs (which result in your view clouding over, and your targetting point wobbling)- I mean how many other games can you barricade the door by jamming it shut with furniture, or dragging a garbage can over to a fence to help climb over it?

Then you ahve the skills system, you gain skill points for doing stuff, be it exploring, talking, doing your missions (oddly no skill points for killing - they don't make killing the answer to everything) which then enhance you skills such as lockpicking, hacking, medical training etc etc.

Finally I should mention combat, firstly you can hide in shadows, sneak silently, distract people, the enemy AI is brilliant, you can trick them, sneak them, make them panic - everything a real person does. If you do want to get your hand's dirty then it's not an easy task - firstly you ahve a targetting reticle based on your character stats, if you've only just drawn your weapon, or been running your aim point could be 30 degrees wide, the longer you hold the weapon, the finer the targetting point gets (like when you line up the sights on a real gun), better skills in weapons makes the point smaller, it's not ust a mater of pointing and waiting, even in eays modes guns hurt, in realistic mode (my preferred mode of play) bullets from the enemy are just as damaging as yours - bullets shatter bones, cause serious injury, just 1 bullet off a pistol could leave you limping, or unable to aim your gun properly due to a hit in the arm or leg... and that's best case scenario - get hit in the head you'll be pushing up daisys (torso can soak up a couple of hits due to body armor) - even if you do kill your enemy, the sound of a gunshot sends every character in miles scrambling for you location...

...still sound like a common 1st person shooter?

There, now you know what Deus Ex is Mintman, and you can come out from udner that rock... Oddly actually many people havn't heard of Deus Ex, although it won best concept or soemthing at E3 last year

(disregard smily face if it has nothing to do with topic. Don't ask.)

Ebay? Nah, I'll probably just buy it as a Greatest Hits in Wal-Mart. I'm not really sure about my other discs no more. I know my final disk is messed up so you can't see the ending, and who knows what could be wrong with the second disc. Hey, and since some mysterious shadowy figure gave you money, you could buy it for me, right?

Originally, I was gonna delete this post, but then I realized that Camo is quite correct. A lot of you prolly don't remember, but one of Reality's End's greatest prides was never selling out, id est I never got into affiliates or link-exchanging or putting up worthless non-Endish stuff on my site. I got where I am built on my own sweat-and-bloody, and that took a good while as I get dizzy very fast. Hey, at 120 pounds, I shouldn't even technically be able to let blood in the first place!

  1. Join the WWF
  2. You kinda do a bit of link exchange, think about it, we have links to our websites when you search our file on one of the games and on our pages we have the dragons or gyms...

I'd think it more businessmanlike. I mean, people think they are getting stuff like an adoption center or a game, when in fact I am getting linked back to (in more than the normal sucky adoption center way)!
Moreover, "link exchanges" rarely get hits on them. How many times have you people just breezed over affiliate buttons? Exactly. I, on the other hand, link from a usually sucky web site to my site. The web-goer usually forgets about the site from whence they came and stays here.
I'm like a blackhole! And since a professional blackhole, it doesn't count as selling out.
That is until I get up my comic, in which case my bros and I are all exchanging links. I figure we have the same humour, so we should spread the hits like oh-so delicious butter.
Mmmmm, butter.... *eats a stick* *dies from heart attack*

Yah, but newbies do click affiliate buttons - On the original Another World website about 50% of my hits were coming through a little affiliate button on MSS (for some reason yahoo ALWAYS turns down any applications I send to add my site to their lsitings even when compared to some of the shyt on their listings mine is not that bad)

Magikarp's Secret Society hardly counts, tho', as a factoring force since it's very basis is on idiot blood.
I mean, the site was a minitature version of a good site save it was supposed to get that on-line game that never came to fruition.
So much stupidity compressed into one little area... it was kinda scary, no?

(NOTE: This post has no real point; KK would just like to mention that he hates MSS)

Well, their game never got off the ground since on one side I was showing them the realistic coding possibilities, and they were asking for more than just a simulated world, they wanted simulated existance...

...I'm only just reaching that level of coding ability, and quite frankly, the basis for the game sucked.

Oh if anyone is wondering why my site has stopped moving is because I'm doing some major pen and paper re-thinking of AW, one that gets away from the more traditional MUD's and Japanese battling monsters...

  Great!
... uh, so, if it isn't any of those, what will it be?
I mean, if it's one thing the internet doesn't need, it's another over-stocked MUD or any more Pokemon stuff (especially since its on the decline), but what do you in fact have planned for AW (which I just figured out was not related to the root beer, although I wish it was ; . ;).

Well, the cityscape system just didn't tie in with the battling monsters style combat idea, the only reason that was there is because it's like a traditional requirement for an online RPG, and that in itself didn't tie in very easily with items or the technology that exists (close combat is not something we expect to see MORE of in the future).

Firstly I was thinking over how exactly I could use guns, and keep it from being a "you shoot at me, I shoot at you" affair, the stacking system wouldn't work for that. Initially I looked at being able "move, shoot, or move fast" for cover, but that's too warhammer like, and your character's would all be the same speed (when I'd rather have speed being a payoff in battle).

While still kicking aorund that idea I wondered if it'd be possible to allow multiple players - and I seem to have come to a conclusion over that being possible.

Then I was kicking around AI characters, and realised that if I set up a set of generic item/monster objects that could be automaticly assigned around... then I realised I'd practicly reinvented X-Com online completly on my own

Anyway in short the battle system will be turn based, allowing multiple players to fight over a battlefield that is in fact based on the actual layout of the level, both against themselves, and against AI characters later on (I have no idea how I'm gonna do the AI though). I'm also doing some research on the net to include line-of-sight. This will probably dent the support from the Japanese battling monster fans, but hey, most of them (not all) are newbies anyway....

More than the newbie part, ninety-percent of them are now idiots (just newbies that never grew up).
It just keeps getting spiffier (and that's sayin' something since I don't care for most multiplayer on-line gaming anyway). All I know is that you need to have AI in there if you have more than two players fighting each other (it makes ganging up on one player a little more difficult).

Oh yeah, interesting how you took the XD face to use in your post. I've really gotta get the emoticons in this forum in a way that doesn't involve getting the URL of one above and pasting it below in an IMG tag...

Yes Mintman, image tags would definantly do up this place and put in a little more individuality.

And who here is abagging fighting games? Done properly with a little tag team format they go off!

Uh, Camo, I said to not use IMG tags to get the smileys... weren't you even paying attention to what I said?
As for fighting games, they are alright although newer ones are gettin' too swept up in that whole "combo" thing. Feh!

That would be good, but unless we can physically beat him about the head and shoulders with a two by four, then there really is no point

But what was this post even suppose to be about? Most hours played? Fighting games? Camo thrashing? Hmmm...

*immediately sets work on a new game, Camo Thrasher, in which you thrash Camo*
*realizes he doesn't even know what Camo looks like, so uses a picture of Alf instead*
*realizes that "thrashing" means skateboarding, so quits early in his game about a skateboarding Alf*

A shame, too. Alf looked cool in that helmet...
