If only some one would shoot him.... except that it would validate his arguments... but I can still see one of the more camo-esque members of the gaming community perpetuating such an act Camo Smile

Another school shot up, and he's out before it's determined if the shooter even knew what video games were... Personally playing games like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction(which I'm told is like GTA where you use your fists) are great at stress relief. I really would like to meet him and explain that if it WEREN'T for these great violent games, I WOULD have tracked him down and beat the crap out of him, if only for piggybacking on all these tragedies.

Video games can't be blamed for violent acts, but they certainly don't help. I think it depends largely on the intelligence (or lack thereof) of the gamer. I like using video games as a destressor myself, but I've also been told that I get scary when I play and I believe them. I only get like that when I play games, but some people have a harder time getting out of violence mode than others. That's where there are problems.
Either way, it's still really sad. *sigh* Forget global warming. At this rate the world is going to tear itself apart before it ever gets a chance to melt.

Video games don't cause violence. Before they were the scapegoat, television was, and before it, comic books. Before all that? Regular books.

Fact of the matter is, violent games don't make people violent; violent people like violent games. There's a shocker. You could also ask every murderer if he likes ice cream, and whaddaya-freakin'-know -- you've just found a correlation between violence and ice cream.
Of course, only an idiot would overlook the fact that regular blokes like ice cream, too, just as it takes a moron to overlook the same regular joes enjoying vidya games.

Unfortunately, the world is full of such morons.

I don't know what will take the burden off of video games' shoulder as the new scapegoat for humans being jackasses. We are running out of new media forms, but I'm sure as soon as we find it, it'll be pegged as the source of all human evil.

  Y'know, 'cause it's never humans.

Jack Thompson is just another insane religious right hate spewer. When he dies it will be just like Jerry Falwell, celebrated by the people who realize how bad of a person he is. I know KK and MG aren't exactly as militant about these kind of guys, and they don't quite agree on celebrating their deaths, but I'm pretty sure they'll support me in that these guys opinions aren't even really worth paying attention to.

I've got no qualms about saying that these guys are scum though, because they are just looking to profit off of tragedy every time it happens. Every massacre is another shot to get on tv and a little attention. This is one case where the general apathy of the public is a benefit though, because nobody really listens to what they say. Course, if they were listening, common sense might actually prevail and these guys wouldnt even get airtime.

As a matter of fact, these are the guys the traditional media loves because they're more comfortable with those uber-conservative views. The whole Fox News/Mass Effect debacle is a perfect example of this kind of thinking. I'm loathe to say more about it, as the topic is beaten to death every time something like this comes about.

Honestly it's not Thompson's anti-video game stance itself that scares me so much as how devoted he is to his unbelievably twisted logic. Any semi-reasonable person can tell how deluded and obsessive the man is, yet, not only does the media entertain him, but the bar actually lets him practice law!

Well, the bar is not too happy with him either, they'd like him to go away, he makes them look bad too. They've actually been seeking sanctions against him for inappropriate conduct for about a year now, which is the normal glacial pace for such matters. Furthermore, I'd love to be able to totally ignore guys like Thompson, but because there are still people that will listen to him, ignoring him will just lead to trouble. Now, I don't advocate harming him, but he does need to be stopped. Hopefully the bar will slam him properly.

I remember a time that I was watching Cartoon Network, and a special about violence about cartoons came on for the next two hours. I believe I started playing videogames as soon as I found out it was going to drag out that long.
I remember state of the unions taking up my primetime tv...I went and played videogames.
I remember the last time I saw Thompson on the TV with his special( what was it, last month, if even that long ago?), I turned off the TV and briefly considered never watching it again. Subject was how there are no videogames suitable for children. I know I know, can't play pong but they can sing ring around the rosy.

That was... kind of random. I think I saw something about JT in there, though, so I'm gonna assume he's the point of the post.Really, the man amuses me more than anything these days. With people like him I usually worry about regular, uninformed people taking him seriously, but, really, few rational people could possibly take him for anything more than a nutter at this point, so no worries.

Tis random rantings right? I read that topic.

I gotta ask, is there anyone really worse than Thompson in regards to the gaming world? I know about the big names for censorship such the Governator and Mrs Clinton (both who have been quiet about the topic of late on my radar) but really, I think Jack would like to ban VGs from the world if he had the chance. Personally I'd rather have children not getting viagra offers in their email(and those worse offers) than not playing Bully, but those are just my priorities.

Another side note, not about viagra: Is the Scholarship edition of Bully worth getting/renting? Haven't played the original, but aside from Thompson (who hasn't said all he could about it 3 years before it was released), I've only heard positive about it.

Well if Thompson hates a game, it must be good.

I find it hilarious how a topic goes off topic, a common trend at RE, when Boyachi brings up the topic, something that almost never occurs halfway through the course of posts.

I'm certain that Thompson just has too much spare time to nip and pick at problems that aren't real, aren't a danger, aren't going to have anything done with them, but causes enough ruckus from those for and against the message.
  Also, he's a douche!
