Well, I am starting work on some of my programs (a download manager) and was wondering, what type of files does the R.E. League and the R.E. Forums use? Do they use DBM (something like this) or .TXT files?

Just wondering, cause I need to make the program good so people will want the next version. (Which will probably never happen...Wink)

I'd imagine they must be ASCII (.txt to you laymen, but not .txt if you get what I mean).

The only othe real alternative is XML or MySQL, but I don't think Kero knows XML, and MySQL is hard to intergrate with Perl (it's designed for PHP primarily).

Besides, remember when we had all that trouble with file's going missing? - that's generally what happens with ASCII-based file storage if the server goes wonky, since there's no queing system like MySQL and suchlike use.

Actually, that entire file-missing thing was all F2S's fault. I never had the problem before I moved there, and it wasn't all with ASCII either. Sometimes I would upload stuff that would disappear half-way through the image.
But yes, I use ASCII for all the files in R.E. (I actually make them .DAT files instead of .TXT). I am far too lazy to learn PHP and Perl suits what limited needs there are just fine.
