I was sorting through my e-mail today(I've said before that I never delete any e-mails). In one of them was my password for the Pokemon Crater UBB. Just out of curiosity, and so I could laugh at it some more, I decided to click on the link(which went to the UBB, which of course wouldn't work, so I deleted the body of the link and went to the homepage). That's when I found this(this is taken from the HEAD section of the page)...

i dunno alot about pokemon crater, execpt or th fact i visited it once and the site sucked....
so....why does everyone hate the site, is it a competitor against mintman or somethng????i bet this post was a stupid one....well maybe...

It's hated for many reason:
- It has a crappy battle sim (REL is far better made) - but because it has so many visitors, there are thousands of newbies who use it, instead of joining quality RPGs like REL (mintman's reason)
- There are virtually no good trainers who visit their UBB, this means that the newbies are allowed to chat, develkop and inter-breed, creating a kind of mega-over confident, but overall lacking trainer, who when he loses at PBS, claims "you cheated" - and then tells you unless you fight him on the crater battle sim, you suck, and goes all whiny when you refuse.
- I was a member at their message board for 2 years - I one day decided to visit their mIRC chat room, it turns out that the mIRC chatroom is run ON BEHALF of crater, not as part of crater - anyway, being their for 2 years, and a well recognised figure, I decided to do some newbie nbashing (quite commonly done on the UBBs) - and I was instantly banned form their website for being an "ignorant newbie" - well fine, if you can't recognise your own hostee's time to mvoe on.
- I used to be hosted on crater - then one day, my entire website was deleted without warning, I E-mailed their webmaster, and he never replied as to why, inf act, nobody had even SEEn the webmaster in like 6 months...
- Crater had used the same website format for like 2 years, the webmaster made the site, then got a load of rednecks and hillbillys to post regular updates, but the main (webmasterish) content of the page never changed in 2 years!
...the reason crater dissapeared the first time aroundwas that MSS (or more specificly me and Majik of MSS) hacked their UBB, took full control of it - being the lazy ass he is, the webmaster just deleted the entire UBB, and never reinstalled it - he didn;t even fix the broken links on the main website, then after a few months he just didn't renew his URL purcahse - I don't understand WHY - I mean crater had like 50,000 regular users a day - he must be a really f***ed up webmaster to just remove an ENTIRE website with that kind of visitor count, without even a word of warning to the suers.

It may come back, but it'll be even worse than the TPM return.
During TPM's even shorter absence than 'Crater, they lost tons of idiots/regular visitors. Thing is, their UBB stayed up. UBBs in a Pokemon setting breed incompetence. Even the UBB of a high-intellect site like AH, PD, or Marble Palace collapse without constant and harsh moderation (as we saw in AH). UBBs are one of those things a web site can have that idiots craze. UBB's are not a bad thing; they just attract them. And when idiots stay, they infect protoforms with a thought-normal pattern of behavior. Suckiness pursues from their.
Now, sure I hate it because of that stupid RPG of theirs (RPG? What am I saying! It's just a game, and a waste of one at that.), but I also hate it as a spawning pool of mis-intelligence. Whenever a place can support a moveset that contains Vine Whip or Water Gun, it should be purged from all existance.
Then, it's "web master" is one of those sorts of people I simply loathe. They get a web site, do nothing, get credit for it, pick their nose, and have hordes more of people bow to worship them. I can't stand web masters that aren't even web masters. I mean, he got the game from a friend, he doesn't update, he doesn't do a freakin' thing ever. urge to kill... rising

Signing up a lot won't do squat. A site like his feeds off of multiple signatures as they use it for their own status ("Look how many members I have!"), unlike me who deletes dud accounts. These people care only for large numbers; they aren't in the web site biz to actually help people.
I think this site will just fizzle out again. At this time, you can't make a Pokemon site, get rid of it, and then try to start it up again. What few Pokemon sites are still straggling on are doing poor enough. People aren't going to flood back to an resurrectee just because it tells them to.
A thing that will really help is if my FracturedReality server (which came back for like a month) starts working again. I could make a rendition of PBS (and the RELLB) that would entirely floor that stupid game, especially if I link my PBS (which everyone knows about) to my site. Yes yes....

mintman is probably correct. my site which is pokemon based is practically dead....i only have like 500 hits on it total from when i started it....a year ago.
i was thinking of restarting it again, but maybe i shuld change it's topic.
basically it will not get any hits the person who owns the idiotic site will eventually give up.
pretty soon you'll see the site is missing again...and it will be like it never existed. the only thing i can think of that may make it succesful is the fact that the left over people that still think pokemon is cool may flock to it making it popular for a short time, until those members relize it's boring.
it's either a quick death, or slow death for that site. i bet this post was a stupid one....well maybe...

If you want to restart on your site, you could change the theme just to video games in general. I mean, then you could keep anything about Pokemon that you have that has to do with the game, because it's still a game, right?

I don't think you understand, Camo. This is a site we rejoiced in the apparent death in (as seen in one of our favorite topics from days of yore).
Sure there are a lot of stupid sites, but we hate them all. We love it when they die as they deserve, but if one actually comes back, all Hel is loosed.
Especially this one. Most sites just sucked and that was it. This one sucked and had a super-sucky "game" on it that idiots adored. It makes people who've actually worked and made decent games seem on a lower level (as has been proven by me and a bunch of boards comparing REL to Crater's game).
I mean, those half-finished games of Ash10 and Writer77 are better than that RPG... and they aren't finished! But the game isn't what made it popular; idiots are.
And that's just maddening... see how mad I am

If only I had an attention span. I start something, get halfway throught, realize I did it all wrong, and start a new one. Maybe this week, I hope to get some people to help me with my game, since I made, and it has a huge code, with all these if(creaturename = blah) do this and make this button this. It makes the code really long a large file...And, back on subject, Crater's Pokemon Game, sucks. End of story.Experence the Game!

Ha!... you think some of your files are large? My explore mode for the new game takes about 5-10 minutes to load so that I can edit it. Or maybe that's just my crappy computer at work. Yeah... my computer's always there for me.. .just not in the good way.
