No, I am just saying that well, my post was useless. And um... in case you didn't notice in my last post: I am JEWISH. But I do celebrate Christmas and Easter and stuff because my mom is Christan.

Trust me, GameCube is worth the wait. I just got through playing my first round of Luigi's Mansion, and the GameCube's getting even better. We also managed to get a PS2 this Christmas (I bought GameCube with, for the most part, my own money), and also got FFX. But, due to complications I don't feel like explaining, I can't play it just yet. It's torture!

I'm confused. Your dad is Jewish and your mom's a Christain?
How did they decide which to raise you as?
  I mean, that's just wacky!

  Merry belated Christmas, and happy early new year! ^_^;

Anywho, I don't mean to brag or anything, but I'm the same as Ash10. ^_^; My dad's Jewish; my mom's Christian, but my brother and I were baptised (that's how my mother put it) into Judaism. This is probably how it worked with Ash10.

(Now, WHY it's like that creates a whole different story... ^_^; Maybe it has something to do with the father being the leader of the family in our civilization or something...)
Yours truly,
  Miss Mai

  Bah humbug...

...I dunno what all this xmas rubbish is all about... I mean the celebrations they hold have NOTHING in common with what the celebration derives from - the birth of Christ, and the Celtic winter festivities (they used to feast a lot this time of year) - Old buggers in red outfits with flying reigndeer who ilegally intrude onto peoples property was never in it, it makes about as much sense as a bunny who leaves choccy eggs at easter, or a fairy that nicks your (hopefully already dropped out) teeth and leaves cash in return.

Thank God you're an aethiest, eh, Ryuu?

Well, I can answer all of your little inqueries. See, Christmas largely comes from when the Roman empire was converted. They agreed to become Christains on one condition: their favorite day of the year, Solstice, would be kept. On that day, slaves became masters and masters the slaves. All was merry on that festival, so Constantine kept it around. They worked in the Three Wise Men's gifts into that gift giving thing.
Then, centuries later, there was Saint Nicholas. Back in those days, women could only get married if they had a dowry. This guy got together a bunch of money and dropped it into the family's window on two seperate occasions -- once for each daughter. Somehow, Nicholas's Bishop suit got turned into that wacky get-up he has today.
The tree and decorations are Norse. The tree represents Yggdrasil, the World Tree; the bows are for Freya, goddess of beauty; candles represent Thor; rainbows (yes, there are supposed to be raindows on that tree!) represent Bifrost, the Bridge of the Aeris that links our land of Midgard to theirs in the heavens.

Easter is another funny one. It was a spring pagan holiday of the goddess Oester. Her symbols were the hare and the egg, and hence is where that comes from
The Christians where crazy in their desire to convert. They adopted so many odd principles along the way it's not even funny. But, hey, it worked :p

Yeah... well, I've been into Greek and Roman mythology since before I went to school thanks to my older brother, and I began an extensive study into Norse when I was in the fifth grade (and I have gone on to learn probably more about it than 99% of the people outside of Scandinavia). Then, taking three years of Latin comes bundled with even more Roman stuff... yeah.
Thing is, my knowledge doesn't even start to compare with some Mythology professors. Now that's a true nerd!

(yo, Minty, it's Satunalia. and yes, I'm sure 'bout that 'cause I just looked it up to be sure. see?)

Camo, I believe you're talking about vending machine bubbles, and believe me, they have a LOT more than that in them. You can find just about any anime, game, manga, etc. in them. For some reason, Nihonjin love their vending machines, and you can be some very complicated and advanced toys in them, unlike the states cruddy, quater-spent, jointless trash.

Oh, the Japanese put all of their characters into cheesy merchandise. Why, they even had Pokemon food seasonings. Japan is just cool like that. Japan has so much cool stuff over there. They put a high value on their video games, mangas, and animes. Those are quite literally their only art forms worth expressing; it seems like 90% of the things in Japan will revolve around one of those in some way or another.
I gotta learn Japanese, book a flight, and return with hordes of Japanese stuff. There is so much that you can only find over there, both good and bad (good like unreleased videogames; bad like their number one TV show starring a cat with a time machine on its head).

I just gotta learn the language and move there - period...

Actually I dunno about living there, but they are definatly the coolest bunch on the planet, their media and artforms are exactly up my street...

...unfortunatly this isn't a view shared by my dad...

*Is probably the only person who has to watch Animé or manga covertly due to his Dad deeming it "childish rubbish" - he was basing this assumption on "Escaflowne" - oh he also believes it's full of porn (Well it was called "Manga erotica", and he was the one of us that bothered to watch it, I went off to do better things*

Still I aim to get back to Iaido* once I get a bit of money thru websites, and learn the language if I ever get off my lazy ass...

*(I want to get at least 2nd dan, which is gonna require more than a wooden sword and a tracksuit)
** Kero - did you make this forum thingy? - when you edit your post it soemtimes triple spaces the lines between paragraphs

Yeah, I made it, and I don't know why those return spaces keep coming. It's crazy. There are a lot of bugs in this forum, but no one can say that it is worse than that UltraBoard I had. Yeck!
Yeah, moving to Japan seems like the thing to do for me. Why? Japanese chicks -- nuff said.
Oh, there is no such thing as "manga erotica." All manga has stuff like that in it... although some a little more than others. I mean, they are allowed to show nudity on public TV over there. Well, they are allowed to show a lot more on TV over there... they rock. They raise their children to be responsible for their own actions (and honor) so blaming stuff on the media isn't a problem for them.
*sigh* America has a long way to catch up...

Yup - perhaps thats why I prefer it, I've always been very careful for my own actions, and sensible if I learn or see things "above my level" so to speak.

Western kids have a habit of seeing something on TV, then copying it no matter the consequences - be that trying a flying kick off the sofa like Power rangers - pretending to be a flying Pokémon from a tall building, or re-enacting a scene from a swartznegger film with daddies gun. Why the heck can't anyone be sensible these days?

I know this is gonna sound a bit like "back in my day" - and I'm only 17, but I swear when I was younger, kids didn't go aorund in designer gear, trying to act like grown ups - girls didn't wear make-up at 8 years old, and the first rumours of sex didn't filter down until about 11 y/o - one kid was only about I dunno, 8 or 9 y/o, he kept yelling obscenities and trying to be threatening when (calmy) asked about it - he replied "Well if I killed you the Police can't arrest me, and if you hurt me you'd get jailed and sued" - how the Western world has degraded....
