I know you've probably seen this at least fifty times already, but sorting through the past posts now seems like a daunting task. I decided to check on Fallen's battle and stats today, and suddenly, I find that Fallen has a ferry skill.

*imagines Fallen swimming through the water and helping people across rivers* Hey, I could make money off of that! *grin* I've probably got the wrong meaning of "ferry" though.

How do our familiars acquire skills, and are there specific times/battles/opponants/levels that trigger a skill?

Also, I'm assuming these skills will be relevant to the upcoming RPG, but will this mean that our familiars will end up being scattered across certain planes of one huge world (such as high-level Nidhoggs devouring the dead in the Underworld, etc.) or will each species have their own specialized realm of existance?

You probably just got that skill after I ran a catch-up script. I had some variable-name mismatchness that prohibited Skills from being learned at certain times before.
You learn Skills just like Spells. At certain levels, creatures simply learn then. They too have practice ratings, but for now, they are invisible.

Ferry does not mean for one bit to carry across water, although that is the true definition of it, Ferrying is simply the act of carrying a character. I think I stole the name from Dragon Dice. The Gryphon had the Ferry ability on it. I liked the name Ferry better than any other name like Mount because it really failed to describe the full capability of the skill. I mean, the creature can carry more than just passengers as Mount would suggest.

In game, skills cannot vary the path of a creature; they can only enhance certain aspects of the game or make them easier. For example. Corpse Devourer simply lets a creature gain life after defeating enemies. Ferry allows only a character and creature to share the same movement action, which is especially useful when combined with Flight and Swim.
But anyway, wherever you can get in the game with Skills, you can somehow or the other without them. It wouldn't be fair otherwise.

Don't think you're too good, Evenfall. Skills doesn't work until the RPG comes into play, and it's a long time before that. All that matters is your stats. Oh, and btw MM, can you add a last logged in feature to the search user screens. If you do that, at least people will know who's an active user and who's not, so it'll be easier for people to get their challenges accepted or declined.
