A person challenged me yesterday, and I accepted at around 3:45 PM. Now, its already past a lot of time, like about 28 hours, and only 4 actions were done. 2 spells done by each familiar. I wonder whats happening.This is Dragon_Knight, Leader of the DarkShadow Gym.

I am attempting to implement a new Battling Dragons battle system, as stated in some other posts, that does not require Web Site battling. It runs on an automated Cron script (which I finally was able to activate thanks to SSH access to my web server).
However, I don't know how much it works. Let's see, I got it up yesterday, so... I guess it doesn't work well. I better check on the script "I don't see the point of pants that go so low that... yah... and shirts that low."

After one night, I got the battle log.

This is all too weird, only Nikiia challenged me, but I got tons of other creatures into my battle log as well.
Yes, what a brilliant observation to make right after I say that I just changed the battle script and that it is obviously flawed. Hmm, do you think this could be, gasp, a flaw that I am currently debugging and can only check every hour since that is when the scheduled Cron script runs? Noooooo!
What happened is that I never had the messenger variable cleared out, thus everything that took place in every battle was also being appended to every subsequent battle. It effects nothing except the mad lengths of your battle logs.

MM, when the thingy with the website not needed and stuff is debugged, will our familiars still gain experience from website visits?
Perhaps I should explain just how this new system will operate.
Everything will be just as it is now: creatures gain experience from web page views, they may still be challenged thusly from a link provided on them, and the hidden counter still increments. I still have all of the same rules for multiple creatures on a page and everything.
The only differences are that 1) Battle is checked to take place every hour instead of when pages are viewed or accounts logged into, making those few people with really dud accounts have their battle progress regardless of actual activity, and 2) A web site URL is no longer a necessity for battle. People without web sites may challenge others without them or any combination thereof.
There will be a page linked to on the main page simple titled "Challenge Another User." Said page will have a text box on it in which to type in the name of another user to challenge. Don't know anyone's account name? Then search for it. In every View Account page will be provided a link to instantly challenge the user (if the user is available for battle).
So that's about it. I hoped I answered all of your questions.

Hey MM does that mean that your little upgrade allows people who don't have a web address to put theirselves on the Battle Board and also when do you think you will get the RPG version out?Triforce

Yeah, now anyone can post themselves on the battle board, which may or may not be a good thing.
Of course, all this battle access not means that members can instituted universal blocks, preventing any challenge from being received ever again (challenges may still be made, tho', which is an upside for consideration).
I think I've already stated many times about the RPG. I do believe posted work began on it winter of last year (you can check me on it if you want), and very little progress has been made, really. Don't hold your breath for the RPG; it is a long time away, especially since I keep advancing the current BD game making even more for me to program.
Of course, now with both AT out of the way and little to do in my programming class, I could try to step up production on it, and I think I shall. A year with nothing to show -- even if most of the time was spent not working on the project -- is just a sad record to go by.

hopefully now that your a lil more focused on it, it can get done sooner.

Hey, I can't be held accountable for how slow people accept challenges. By all technicality, it is your fault for challenging someone who doesn't respond swiftly
Oh yeah, I remember all of the times the BD RPG was supposed to be finished, and I know exactly what goes wrong every time I am about to hit a revalation with it. The last one was in the summer; I was quite literally a month away to having the actual Battling Dragons: Fehu adventure started... and then came the complaints about Legend of the Gilded Jewel not being out yet. It is all your fault, people!
Spring... spring... what was happening in the spring? My memory doesn't serve me well, but I'm guessing college classes. That is when I had chemistry and physics at the same time. The classes themselves weren't much, but the labs were murder -- bloody murder I tells ya!

Well, I accepted the challenge a few seconds ago, if it means anything to you. I've been somewhat busy lately, and my computer recently broke too, so I haven't been able to get on much at all. Until Marching season's over, I won't be able to get on too much, so if you want to challenge me, do it on fridays, as I usually check my mail on Saturday sometime. Hrm... For teh slowly-accepting challenges, I had a simple idea. Well, it probably isn't really all that simple, but it seems like it might possibly *be* simple. Yeah, I do know that by offering this idea, if you like it, I am putting a halt to those things that you'd like to do, but just hear me out-
Have an Auto-accept option. For example, you could have it say either all challenges from a specific person, all challenges from someone with a familiar equal in level to yours, greater than or less than yours, all challenges (no matter what), or accept/deny challenges from a specific type of creature (i.e: a hrimfaxi does not want to battle another hrimfaxi, so it automatically denies it)
Another idea that just came to me would be to write your own auto-script of how you want the battle to take place (i.e: Automode "defensive strike" = dewshot x 2, then attack x 3, then dewshot some more... etc. etc..) and have that saved as a choice for an automatic battling style.-_-; (c) Ethereal Enterprises, 2002

Bloody Odin, for the last time, no auto-accepts of any kind will be in Battling Dragons. Stop asking for them. I don't know how many different posts I have to say "nein" to the idea in.
As for the auto-script thing, that would seem to cause more problems than it would solve so far as I am concerned. Trust me; people are stupid.
