Nearing the End?

The Key of Ages has almost been retrieved, and of course, no new authors have come by. Both of these raise an interesting question: should the story simply continue as it is or should a second story be made as a sequel?

If a new story spawns, should only one be made? What the Key of Ages is exactly has never been defined. If there is some way for each character to retrieve the full functionality of the Key, each could splinter into their own story, each revolving around one of the different relics. This would help qwell the staleness that has resulted from Geirrek and Zedd having no other humans to deal with than each other.

Little from this story would really continue into the next other than one character and perhaps a villian that could be easily recapped. Young stories are typically the only ones that attract new authors (if even they manage to do so).Arrow Reply

Up/Down

While I'm not exactly against the split of the protagonists, I'm not exactly dancin' around for it. I do, however, support the restructuring. Plenty of ends could probably be met with that of this chapter to the KoA saga as entire new doors (and casts!) could be opened up to future happenings.

And, as we all know, fresh piques more interest than lumbering towers of posts any day, 'tho' Aftermath didn't seem to follow that trend with it's quel...Arrow Reply

Re: Up/Down

Well, I like the idea of a new story (either the split or the straight sequel), but I would have thought that Aftermath's main problem was that you had to read and know AtP well before you wrote in it, so wouldn't a second KoA have the same problem? I suppose that's just arguing for the split though...Arrow Reply

Nope!

Especially in the case of the split, you would only need to know as much about the first part of KoA to write for the sequel as people knew about the stuff prior to KoA who actually wrote for KoA.

Pretty much, the sequels would be very disjoint. The only carry-over would be a single character and an artifact that would be entirely recapped in the first post of the new story. As always, the biggest problem would be gettin' someone to actually write for the friggin' thing!

Since there would be some established history, there are problems with flashback contradictions or the like, but hey, that's why I made that shiny report system that hardly ever gets to be used (mostly because of that shiny writing system that never gets used).Arrow Reply

Yep

'S what I meant by 'arguing for the split', basically. Though at least a straight sequel would be basically guaranteed the three authors of this KoAArrow Reply

Guarentee

Well, there is the BW/RPeX/REWS Guarentee: No matter what, something will have two authors. Unless an extremely dire suck is present, both Ems and I will always be there, even if the original author ducks out. *cough*cough*everystoryevermade*cough*Arrow Reply

Three Isn't Enough!

The big thing is that we need more than three authors! That is KoA's biggest (and in my opinion, only real) problem.

'Sides, why would the split cause less authors? I'd still add to each no matter which side Geirrek actually ended up on.Arrow Reply

Re: Three Isn't Enough!

Well, so would I, probably. I just thought three would maybe be too much. Then I realised the activity which KoA has. Yah.Arrow Reply

Too much?!?

Too much? Too much? Too many authors? You can never have enough authors, man! Remember Search? That's what made it work -- although the new report system would keep out any glaring plotholes from writers who couldn't read...Arrow Reply

No no no, three stories. Y'see, I'm a lazy one...Arrow Reply

Oooooh, Stories

It would just be two active stories as the predecessor would stop. Still, two is an awful lot of story for the RPeX to handle. I mean, it cannot even handle one active story.... bah!

I'm trying to hock it on the BD main page... gettin' a few member visits to the RPeX page, but none to any stories. Are people confused or something?Arrow Reply
