Critiquing!

Not enough people critique 'round here, 'specially when there is something that is just glaring. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course, but something that can be looked for in the future to make all writing a bit more natural.

For example, the entire spiel Purple Hoodie goes on when describing Tristan -- there is absolutely no reason for that to be a direct quotation. The verbage used is as no one ever speaks, and if they did, they'd be a douche. Long histories like that are probably best left to being indirect quotes, which in this case would pretty much entail getting rid of the quotation marks and tagging on "He explained" or some such stuff.

Also, whenever someone ends a middle of a sentence or thought with an ellipsis, they prolly want you to finish the thought. I could never understand why RE never picked up on that. Guess it was only understood by Gobbs and I since that is how VapBab operated. 'Course, most writers completely disregard the continuing thought, so you did good at least keeping with it. Dunno if the interruption was added for suspense or what, tho'.Arrow Reply

Re: Critiquing!

Oh I've got ideas for that little bit further on in the story, if I can work it in. It would be rather out of place and unnecessary otherwise. Actually I was originally going to just finish the thought, but I didn't like the way it was turning out.

As for the quotations thing, to be honest, I never even thought about it, but you make a good point. Minor editing away!Arrow Reply

Female Characters

Any women forum-folk or like minded males want to spout ideas on a female character...?

(most likely wont be added in the next edition, as I believe it is my turn...unless someone new turns up)Arrow Reply

Re: Female Characters

People should not give you ideas, and you shouldn't take them. If anyone thinks of anything, they should write it.Arrow Reply

Re: Re: Female Characters

You misinterpret me- I only wish to have the character discussed, I do not want to make it. This is merely a place for prospective authors who may need some help developing their character..? That's what these boards are for isnt it? That and Post CritiquingArrow Reply
