In Myth:
Thought to have originated from the lost island of Atlantis, Perytons were monstrous birds with the head and legs of a stag. Their plumage was described as both dark green and light blue.
Perytons hunted men. Their shadows were those of men when hunting, but after killing a human, its shadow would return to normal. Because they cast the shadow of a man, they were said to be the souls of lost travelers who died away from home.
Reportedly, no weapon could harm a Peryton; however, they could be stopped. Each could kill only once, and then they would be harmless to any other human.
