Mishipizhiw is a monster of the Ojibwa and Algonquian Native Americans in the region of Lake Superior. It is a large cat, a panther or a lynx, with an incredibly long tail that it can use to rile waves and storms. A number of spikes protrude from its spine down the entire length of its tail. It was often a deity, capable of swimming through rough waters and rescuing those caught in the current. Other times, it brought storms and sank ships. The name of Mishipizhiw (and all of its variants) means "Great Water Lynx" or "Night Panther." Future Development: Pictures of the young Mishi have been drawn on the site before (and look quite ridiculous), so it will receive two distinct forms in the future. Because it is a storm monster, there is a great potential for its technique list to expand. Content-type: text/html
