In Myth:
The Hydrus was a three-headed serpent that inhabited the banks of the Nile. Bestiaries claimed that this was the real creature on which the much more absurd Greek Hydra was based.
The Hydrus was the enemy of the crocodile. It would roll itself up and slip itself straight into a crocodile's mouth. Once inside of its stomach, the Hydrus would burst out, killing the crocodile instantly. See how much less absurd this tale is? That Hydra is so fake....
The name Hydrus comes from the Greek word for water.
