In Myth:
The Hippogryph was a fabulous creature with the head, wings, and talons of an eagle, foreparts of a lion, ears of a dog, and the hindquarters of a horse.
It was the offspring of the Gryphon and a horse, two mortal enemies. The Hippogryph is founded from an saying by Virgil "to cross horses and gryphons," which means trying to do the impossible. Because of its unlikely parentage, the Hippogryph is a symbol of love.
Bestiaries describe the Hippogryph as being an especially swift flier -- as fast as or faster than lightning.
