Gryphon | ||
|
The Gryphon is the legendary half-eagle, half-lion that guarded treasures in mountains. It had the head, wings, and talons of an eagle with the body of a lion and long ears of a dog. It was renown for its keen vision, uncanny might, and swift, graceful flight. The eggs of a Gryphon are said to resemble agates, a type of gemstone. Gryphons are mortal enemies with horses and will attack them on site. The males of the gryphon species were said not to possess wings in some accounts. The name Gryphon comes from the Greek word "gryps", which means "sieze".
