From the hellish Welsh fairyland come the feared hounds Cwn Annwn. They are a phantom breed of dogs whose bodies, while usually invisible, are entirely white save for the blood-red tips of their ears. Their eyes are often described as being as blue as the moonlight. The Cwn Annwn stalk through the light of the full moon, seeking lone travelers on the road. Their howling starts very loudly while they are at a distance, and becomes softer as they approach. Hearing their howl was heralding of certain doom.  The Cwn Annwn can be seen at night leading the souls of those not righteous enough for Heaven but not evil enough for Hell.The Cwn Annwn are led by Gwyn ap Nudd, the ruler of the fairyland Annwn. Do not let the name fool you; the fairyland in Welsh lore is a land of neither living nor dead, but rather immortal, magical beings and fantastic animals. In Arthurian legend, Gwyn ap Nudd was given dominion over demons by God to prevent the destruction of the world. On certain accounts, the Cwn Annwn are led by either the legendary giant Bran or even the Devil himself. The name Cwn Annwn simply means "Hounds of Fairyland" ("Cwn" = "Hound", "Annwn" = "Fairyland").
